Hello, and welcome to the IASHS Website!

The Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality is the only graduate school in the United States, and one of the few in the world, approved to train sexologists. The Institute is approved by the State of California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. Institute graduates are employed in a variety of settings, including medicine and nursing, secondary and higher education, research, the media, social work, counseling and therapy, the clergy, the humanities and administrative positions. The Institute offers five graduate degree programs for persons wishing academic training in human sexuality. These programs are designed specifically for persons who intend to make the field of human sexuality a major focus of their professional careers. Certificate courses are offered in Sex Education, Clinical Sexology, AIDS/STI Prevention, and Erotology. These interrelated certificate courses are designed to furnish professionals in disciplines other than sexology with in-depth knowledge and skills necessary for working effectively with the wide range of sexual questions and problems which arise during the ordinary course of treatment or work. The Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality welcomes your interest, and invites you to explore its resources through your visit to this website.

The Mission of the Institute

The mission of the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality is to provide a graduate course of study for those persons considering and preparing for careers in human sexuality or already working in the field and in so doing, to make a significant contribution to the quality of professional work in the field. The mission requires the maintenance of archives, resource centers and research facilities dealing with primary sexological and erotological material not available elsewhere, and a commitment to the highest scientific, academic and ethical standards by administrators, faculty and students.

>>> Work Study Program <<<
An Opportunity
To Be Part of History

The Erotology Department of The Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality is offering ten (10) work-study scholarships for students who wish to earn the Doctor of Human Sexuality degree specializing in Erotology, which is the scientific study of the graphic depictions of the acts of sex and love.

The reason for this work study opportunity is that The Institute is involved in the creation of what many people think is the most important sexological event in the first part of this century – the creation of the world’s finest museum dedicated to the preservation of our erotic heritage. Simply put, we need help in the archiving and preparing of the works in The Exodus Trust Archives and the Institute’s libraries for presentation in the Harry Mohney Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas. There are not enough persons trained in this field to provide the leadership and the design capabilities based on expertise in the general field of sexology.

A profile of this program, which lasts for sixteen months (four trimesters):

Four months of academic work in the fields of sex education and clinical sexology. Much of this preparation can be done at a distance through video, workbooks and directed reading.
The second four months consist of seven weeks of archiving, appraising and introduction to erotic art curation at The Institute in San Francisco and one week in Las Vegas at the Harry Mohney Erotic Heritage Museum.
The third trimester will include a one-month period of actual in-training work of art presentation and curation in Las Vegas at the new museum.
The final trimester will include either an additional month working in Las Vegas or an opportunity for the student to create a project or presentation of artwork to become part of the permanent exhibits at the museum in Las Vegas.

It will be expected that during the four trimesters, all students will complete the academic work required for the Doctoral degree and will create for themselves a research library, most of which will be provided by The Institute which they will be able to use in their future professional sexological and erotological profession. During these four trimesters, each student shall also complete the State of California-approved certificate programs.

The cost of this program will be $16,500.00, which is approximately half of the non-scholarship program and includes:
The student library
Tuition for four trimesters
Five weeks of lodging in Las Vegas

$6,000.00 is payable at the beginning of the program and the remainder shall be paid over a period of twelve months at $875.00 per month.

Applications for this program will be considered. For further information, please contact Ted McIlvenna at 415.928.1133 x23.
